John 2:13-16
Why would Jesus go into the church, pick up cane and start flogging members, over throwing tables and driving people out of the church? Why did Jesus not take a more civil approach? Why did Jesus not call for a meeting, call those he felt were in the wrong and try to reason with them? Why did he choose the method he used in addressing this situation?
Please note that what Jesus did was the manifestation of the thought of God. He reacted the same way His Heavenly Father would have reacted. We must know that there is time for dialogue and there is time for action. As believers, we must know when to talk and when to take action.
Eli spoke to his sons when he should have been taking action, scolding, punishing and just mere speaking to them. He spared the rod, he refused to take action. His refusal to take action costed him his life, the life of his sons, the life of the warriors of Gof and the Ark of God.
The story of Eli would have been different if he took action when he needed to.
Samson would have taken action against Delilah but he didn't and so he lost his eyes and later his life. Even as parents, we must know when to apply the rod. Proverbs 22:15 AMP
Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline [correction administered with godly wisdom and lovingkindness] will remove it far from him.
There is a time to talk and a time to act.
John 2:16 AMP
then to those who sold the doves He said, "Take these things away! Stop making My Father's house a place of commerce!"
Jesus was saying that God's house is not a business place.
Matthew 21:12-13 AMP
And Jesus entered the temple of God [grounds] and drove out [with force] all who were buying and selling [birds and animals for sacrifice] in the temple area, and He turned over the tables of the moneychangers [who made a profit exchanging foreign money for temple coinage] and the chairs of those who were selling doves [for sacrifice]. [13] Jesus said to them, "It is written [in Scripture], 'MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER'; but you are making it a ROBBERS' DEN."
The temple of God is God's house and it should be called the house of prayer.
The temple of God is not the church building, it is you and I.
1 Corinthians 6:19 AMP
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have [received as a gift] from God, and that you are not your own [property]?
You are God's house and you are to be called the house of Prayer!.
Matthew 21:13 AMP
Jesus said to them, "It is written [in Scripture], 'MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER'; but you are making it a ROBBERS' DEN."
Don't ever be to busy to pray. If you fail to pray the devil will make a mess of you. When you fail to pray, your body which is the temple of God becomes a market place for the enemies.
Believers are commanded to pray, pray without cease. Pray! God's house shall be called the house of prayer.
